About This Car:
This RAM XKSS was built in the early 1990s (the exact year is not known). It was owned by a big car collector in San Diego for many years who drove, showed, cared for and enjoyed it. That collector was a close friend of mine. I sold this car back in 2013 out of that San Diego Collection to a Film Director in West Hollywood. Then years later purchased the car back in August 2019 from that Film Director. The previous owner had the car completely gone through on 8/08/2018. The work he had performed was done at Just Jaguars in Sherman Oaks, CA in the amount of $11,023 (Service Invoice on File). Below is a breakdown of the work that was done.
Engine: Installed remote oil filter and replaced all oil hoses including those to the oil cooler updating it to modem spec. Installed oil pressure sender and oil pressuring. Warning light updated.
Cooling: Corrected engine cooling thermostat operation allowing bypass system to operate when thermostat is in closed position. Added a radiator expansion tank to recapture coolant overflow. Modified header tank outlet at radiator cap to allow for redirection of coolant overflow directly to expansion tank.
Fuel: Rebuilt fuel sender. Installed fuel shut off valve so fuel pump and filter could be worked on independently. Replaced inline under-hood fuel filter with glass bowl filter in the trunk adjacent to the fuel pump. Installed vents to eliminate gas fumes in trunk.
Electrical: Installed battery shut-off switch and improved battery holder. Installed reverse lights and reverse light switch in transmission. Installed small driving lights under headlights. Fabricated headlight cowls. Redid all headlight wiring, installing relays as necessary to operate properly. Fabricated and installed hood plug for all headlight operation. Unplugging would allow for hood removal with ease if necessary. Transformed original wiring, removing all dashboard switches which were upgraded to the original style. Each switch was installed with appropriate washers and spacers to accommodate for larger existing dash switch holes. Redid electric fan wiring installing relays as necessary to operate the fan. Improved all wiring fusing by installing new updated fuse boxes in accessible position. Installed horn relay to operate the horn. Changed dashboard AMP meter to a volt meter which altered current load on the dashboard to a lower current. Replaced oil, fuel and water temperature meters with new. Rewired harness plugs so that if the dashboard required removal for any reason for maintenance, it could be done easily with the removal of 8 screws and 2 plugs leaving all wiring on dash undisturbed. Wired the windshield wiper motor to provide high, wash, low and park positions. Removed inoperative heater system from behind passenger seat. Installed overdrive switch and gearbox connection so that it would only operate in high gear. Replaced both horns.
Some other work done to the vehicle also included completely new wiring harness, new radiator, new fan, re-built SU carbs, new steering column, new battery, new fuel gauge, cleaned fuel tank, new dash instruments (oil pressure, volts and gas) and new D Type wooden steering wheel. In addition, the car has had the Jaguar 4 speed enhance with overdrive. In late 2019, after we acquired it back we did some service work to the car as well. Including new oil, new oil filter, new Ignition Module, tune-up, adjustments and detail work.
Finished in British Racing Green over Tan Leather. The dash and seats are real leather, and the car has a Jaguar 4.2 inline six engine which runs quick and reliably. The disk brakes, drivetrain, suspension, manifold and pipes are Jaguar, with Dunlop knock-off rims. The chassis is a Reynard racing unit on which sits a glass and alloy body shell. Leather hood straps, side pipes, immaculate chrome, correct badging, and soft top upholstery add to the charm of this car. This RAM XKSS is an invigorating car to drive, with incredible handling due to the racing chassis, amazing torque, speed (with the straight six) and very solid braking (c/o the disk brakes). The exhaust note from the side pipes is like music to your ears. We showed the car at San Diego British Car Day October 12, 2019, and it took First Place in the Jaguar Other Type Category. It is registered in CA as a 1957 Jaguar. The car also has a unique plate that comes with the car if purchased for CA.
We have owned many different types of Jaguars over the years, and none drive as fast, as exhilarating or draw as much attention as this one. No matter if you are on the road, at cars-and-coffee or at a car show, this car draws people in.
